Fit notes to replace sick notes

The fit note will focus more on the individuals abilities rather than just their incapacity, with a view to promoting earlier returns to work.
Using a fit note, a GP will have the opportunity to stipulate whether or not an employee is fit for work or only 'fit for some work'.
It will also provide further information regarding the employees condition and advice on assisting them in returning to work. This will include information such as: workplace alterations, review of job duties, changes to hours of work and whether or not a phased return to work is recommended.
The new fit notes are due to be introduced later this year.
