The High Court is to review the UK retirement age of 65, which came into force under the Employment Equality Age Regulations in 2006.
Age Concern have argued that the default age is discriminatory and incompatible with the Equal Treatment Framework Directive.
The European Court of Justice has ruled that the UK’s enforceable retirement age of 65 is not in breach of EU legislation.
The High Court will now consider the issues raised by Age Concern in order to ascertain whether the Age Regulations are justifiable.
We will keep you posted.
