Chunk of Devon, based at Ottery St Mary, has grown rapidly since its formation in 2006 and now supplies hundreds of outlets across the UK.
But this growth has seen no compromises made on two really vital areas: the safety, training and welfare of its 40 employees and the top quality locally sourced ingredients for its pies and pasties.
Set up in 2006 by Simon and Suzie Bryon-Edmond, Chunk hit the headlines three years later when it won the title ‘Britain’s Best Cornish Pasty’. This may have raised a few eyebrows over the Tamar but was a great accolade for the East Devon firm.
Over the years Chunk has won multiple illustrious Great Taste, British Pie, Taste of the West, Food & Drink Devon and EBLEX awards and is the only company to have won two Champion Awards at the British Pie Awards. Chunk also won Food & Drink Devon Platinum Awards in 2015 and 2016.
2017 has seen Chunk scoop another 5 British Pie Awards, 8 Taste of the West Awards, 2 more Great Taste Awards…..and they are shortlisted (again) for Food & Drink Devon Awards.

Amarisk has supported Chunk of Devon for many years, principally with its Health & Safety system and HR support.
Chunk is a busy environment and has been underpinned by a comprehensive safety culture from top to bottom of the company. Amarisk Director and safety specialist Richard Hookway has supported and guided Chunk in the ongoing development of its safety systems.
Richard said: “Chunk are a pleasure to work with. You can’t impose a safety culture – it has to be intrinsic, second nature, the same as when you get in your car and put on the seatbelt without even thinking about it. Chunk has that culture and are always looking to improve and adapt. Our job has been to complement this, advise and nurture.”
Safety work at Chunk has included review and development of Chunk’s overall Safety Management System, guidance on legislation and best practice, assistance with development and implementation of safety related documentation, and ongoing performance monitoring to assist Chunk with its safety commitments.
Amarisk have supported Chunk with outsourced HR guidance for a number of years, reviewing and updating the employment system and advising on every aspect of recruiting and employing people.
