Exeter Golf and Country Club
With a history going back to 1895, Exeter Golf and Country Club is one of the most prestigious venues in the West Country.
The club has around 5,000 members and the comment you will often hear is that it is ‘a home from home’. The relationship extends beyond being a paying customer or client – the members are the shareholders of the club. In fact the board of directors and committees of the club are made up of members who volunteer their time and expertise.
In addition to a spectacular 120-acre golf course, the club has heated pools – indoors and outdoors – tennis, squash, racketball, a gym, fitness studio, golf simulator studio and within the Georgian manor house, the Wear Park Spa, Wear Park Restaurant and bar.
It has been a centre of Exeter life for decades and key to its success is the 120-strong team of employees, from greenkeepers to chefs and a myriad of roles in between. There is actually a huge range of skill sets required to run a complex business like the club and the priority for the experienced leadership team is to recruit, train and develop the best people to deliver an unrivaled leisure and dining experience.
“I truly believe that we are a much better business because of our relationship with Trevor, Richard and their team at Amarisk”
Chris Jones – General Manager
Amarisk is proud to have supported Exeter Golf and Country Club since 2007 and has undertaken an extensive range of HR and employment work supporting the internal team.
To complement ongoing reviews and updates of employment contracts, employee handbooks and supporting documentation, the club is able to access unlimited HR advice via Amarisk’s outsourced service.
During the last decade, Amarisk Director Trevor Vanstone has been the central point of contact, he said: “I am aware of how hard the whole team works and the ongoing investment and improvements at the club. You don’t stay a success for over 120 years without putting all the foundations in place. All businesses are ultimately about people, but with such a wide range of skills needed and a membership who genuinely love – and own – the club, getting the best employees and developing them is absolutely key.”
Exeter Golf and Country Club General Manager Chris Jones said: “Amarisk are there when we need them and the advice and support that we get is always gratefully received. We have used them for Health and Safety audits in the past and currently use them for HR support, and I truly believe that we are a much better business because of our relationship with Trevor, Richard and their team at Amarisk”.
Over the years Amarisk has also been engaged in a wide range of training activities including Action Centred Leadership and employment updates and a range of Health & Safety reviews and training for the club.
